Thanks for your input. It was just my thought to get rid of maintenance on the breaker points, and having to check the dwell.
For now my engine runs fine and I won't do such conversion any time soon. But for sure that I am going to go over the whole checklist for my car, simply because I want to know and understand the whole system.

Another question. I have a very little play on the middle shaft of my distributor, but still within specs for the dwell. To get ahead of failure, is there a possibility to get that play away? By fixing a bearing maybe?

is the play radial or axial ? Axial is no problem and normal, radial should not be.

It's radial unfortunately. At this moment just in spec for dwell. My dwell is 34 with new breakerpoints, and has tolerance of +/-3 at 3000rpm. This is exactly what it does now, so it is time to look for a solution to get lower in the tolerance spectrum.

Knowing myself; when I have to adjust something anywhere according to specifications, I always go on until it is spot on.
I'm a bit of a perfectionist and sometimes that costs a lot of time, but is satisfying in the end

a radial play is really a problem. It will mainly show an effect on jumping timing.

das ist aber eine Nachrüstanlage, oder? Denn die Transistorzündung mit Hallsensor kannte Bosch erst ab 1977, also nach der D-Jetronic.
