Mercedes W116 280SE - engine don't start anymore. wurde erstellt von clavanza
Hallo to Volker and everyone ,
yesterday I went up to the Valley to test my W116. I started to inspect the engine compartment (I can confirm that the Bosch code of the injectors is 0280150035 "green", the BOSCH code of the Map Sensor is 0280100111, while the ECU the seller assured me is the original one, always mounted in the car). Inspecting the hoses, I noticed that the Vacuum hose that goes from the Intake Manifold to the MAP was broken...I replaced it with a very strong rubber hose (I think it's ok, eventually I'll look for the original hose on the net). I also found in the engine compartment the idle adjustment screw, the AAV and two pressure regulators, one near the AAV and the other near the MAP. The thing that doesn't seem correct to me is that the gasoline pressure regulator near the MAP has a Bosch part number 0280160234 3.0bar 687. I still need to understand why the car mounts two fuel pressure regulators....maybe you can help me. Having said that, I wanted to test the car on the road and verify that the problem of the engine idling in hot conditions came from the broken MAP hose, but unfortunately I was not able to start the engine. Charged battery, fuel pump works, disassembled the spark plugs and cleaned them well...but nothing...the engine wouldn't start. Now I have to understand what to do.
(The mechanic who sold me the car told me he emptied the tank and sandblasted it, got all the rust off. He re-piped all the fuel lines, installed a new fuel pump, new fuel filter, replaced the spark plugs, spark plug sockets and spark plug wires. In fact he drove that car 300km to my house).
I greet you cordially and wish you a good evening.
Vielen Dank

Hi,
you should not have 2 fuel regulators. You should have a regulator and a damper. Installed regulator 0 280 160 214 is WRONG. It has too high pressur with 2,5 bar. You need the components documented on appendix A for your car.
However this cannot be the reason for a non-starting engine. Have you measured fuel pressure?

Dear Volker,
I don't know why the car has 2 regulators. All I know is that the mechanic who sold it to me drove 300km with no problems and I drove up to the valley the next day to take the car to the garage. Now I have to figure out if the one circled in the picture I posted in the first post is the original 0280160007 pressure regulator (it looks like it is from the picture..but it's put in an awkward position to read the code). Right now I can't read the fuel pressure because I don't have the necessary instrumentation, I'll try to get it.

Good morning everyone,
since the injectors are new, the spark plugs are new and the spark plug wires are new, I try to replace the ignition coil, which seems quite old. Maybe the problem is right there (the engine was stalling and now it won't start...a classic defect to be attributed to the ignition coil...I assume).

Hi,
is there no spark when cranking engine? And which new injectors did you install?

Hi Volker,
the injectors are the "green" Bosch 0280150035.
My brother cleaned the spark plugs well, and the engine started up today and idles fine. However the ignition coil I want to replace because it looks very old. Now I can finally test it on the road and see if the problem with it not idling hot came from the fact that I had the vacuum hose connecting the MAP to the Intake manifold broken. I'll keep you posted on developments!
Thanks
Claudio
