250CE Venturi control unit 114 140 00 53

Dear Dr-Jet

I cannot find on your topics about the Venturi control unit (114 140 00 53) for my Mercedes 1971 250CE to which the throttle switch is attached to. It sits between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipes but I am wondering what the two pipes at the top carry? It is labelled Number (1) and Number (2) in my attached photo. Many thanks

Hi Archie,

this unit is not part of D-Jetronic. It is normal throttle flap and those 2 hoses carry coolant water to preheat incoming air. That is a technology as was used in 60s on many fin tail Mercedes-Benz. 250 CE engine has a lot of inheritage from M129 and M130. M110 is a complete new construction.

...only number two is for the preheating and leads Cooling-Water ( return underneath), number one is for the Engine ventilation!

that is correct. no. 1 ist for vacuum line. Engine ventilation sounds a bit funny. Such a long time ago I worked on my M130.

I remember now: It is meant to suck oil steam from cylinder head cover to throttle and burn it - if it is the same as on M130. Some people with leaking engines remove it from throttle and put a bowl there to catch the oil instead of recirculating it into engine.
