Firewall Boot (grommet) for Djet wiring Harness

On a new harness, it would need to be placed on the harness just after the branch to the relay plug and before continuing much further with the harness build. On an existing harness, it is not so easy. The ECU plug and the Relay plug would likely have to be dismantled and the grommet fed on over the loose wires.
Another problem, is the high cost of that grommet (Part 1169971881). In the USA, it has a list price of $129.00. On-line perhaps $97.00. I found some, just a little too small, on VW site for $6.00!
Finally to my question! What did owners here do about that grommet when building new harnesses?

there are some companies in Germany where you can buy various rubber parts. Well known is this one: www.staufenbiel-berlin.de/katalog09.html
Maybe you could contact them via ebay, too. This could be easier.
Please post the dimensions of the grommet...

Norbert

That company has some interesting products! But unfortunately not the 107 Djet part. As you can see from picture below, the harness comes through at an angle. Perhaps this is not essential? The opening in the firewall is 40mm. Locating groove about 1.5-2mm and small opening is about 15mm.
By the way, today, the MBUSA Classic Center advised one owner that new Djet harnesses are no longer available!

why don't you use the successor grommet for R/C107, W116 and some busses and transporters A1169971881. It costs less than 40€ from MB Germany directly..

I did find a grommet at this German shop that "looks" like the original, but the dimensions don't match the 40mm firewall hole. They do say it is part of their firewall kit, so maybe the 25mm dimension is incorrect? Price is good!

What do you think? I will ask them if it is the same.

In USA, there is the Classic center. Their prices seem higher than your prices. Could be to do with changing foreign exchange rates? or some other reason.
