Hi Unknown,

would be great if you could sign - e.g. via signature in your profile - and let us know your first name. Makes it easier to communicate properly.

You will not find this thermo time switch as new. VDO does not produce it since long. Bosch makes a similiar version with electronics. But it has 2 disadvantages:
  1. It switches ON for 1 second with each start. Original VDO does not if it has reached 35°C.
  2. Its connector is different like the one from cold start valve and injectors. But Mercedes used 4mm round pin connectors. So you would have to change wiring harness.
Normally I would have one in my drawers. But as I move till end of year all my Jetronic stuff is in a well packed box out of reach,

Hello Volker,

thank´s for your quick answer. I was aware that the thermal switch is out of production, I was searching for a used one on the usual marketplaces, but unfortunately without any luck. I was hoping to find someone here who has one and wants to sell it, or who knows where I might have a good chance of finding one. Laugh, if you finished moving yourself and all your stuff and you find one, I would be grateful, even if it's not until next year. I've been restoring the vehicle for 4 years now and have been using a thermal switch that doesn't really fit, that means the engine only starts after 2 or 3 attempts... so I'm patient. ;-)
Sorry, I thought I had filled out the profile properly, but I'll take a look right away.

Best regards,

Oliver

Hallo Oliver,

I've just checked for you and it seems diffcult to find one. What makes u so sure that yours is broken? You know that they are heated and do not switch after that any more?

Besides VDO 36/2/11 you can also use 36/2/17 wie hier . Be happy that u do not have the one with screws. They are like pure gold .

Hi Oliver,

I have the same sensor and tested it recently pls have a look:
jetronic.org/de/kunena/jetronic/1055-the...tches?start=20#24188

I also tested resistance:
Housing-W contact = 65 Ohm
Housing-G contact = 128 Ohm

Hope that your sensor is still okay.

ps also today i bumped into this nice picture of the INSIDE of the sensor.

Hi Volker,
yes, unfortunately it's broken. It doesn't heat up at all, and you can hear noises when you shake it. I think the bi-metal is broken. No, I didn't know that I could use the 36/2/17. I didn't even know it existed! Thank you very much!!!!

Hi Oliver,

well 36/2/11 is the early version that can switch less power. 36/2/17 is later version and does not need a relais to operate cold start valve. Both open for 9.5 sec at -20°C and continue to work till 35°C. You must not use the K-Jetronic versions which stop at 15°C.
