Cracked cable housing from M117 D jetronic distributor

Question, my car is a 1973 Mercedes Benz 450 SEL. It idles and runs well and I have no issues. The concern for me is this: The trigger points to the distributor have an electrical connector with an "orange housing" around the yellow cables that actually connect the cable to the wiring. The cables themselves seem to be okay shape, but the orange housing protecting them seems to be cracked. Is there a way to repair or buy a replacement piece? I have attached photos for clarification.

there is no spare part available. it is a potting stuff and it is unfrtunately normal that it breaks. You can add some Sikaflex or other stuff and mend it.

Thank you for the response! What is the best way to remove the cable/ housing? The orange housing is disintegrating to the touch. Once I remove the housing and cable, I should remove any of the cracked bits and liberally apply the Sikaflex to where the housing originally was?

yes that is what you can do.

What is the best way to pull the plug out? The black cable can be removed, but I don't want to destroy the already fraying parts. Does the cable attachment to the points lift upwards or out to the side?

Hi Ethan,

the whole trigger contacts is fixed with 2 screws on ignition distributor. You will have to take out distributor and afterwards retune ignition timing.
