Hi,
I checked my drawers and found Jaguar, Opel, Citroen, Mercedes, VW/Porsche and also Volvo 015 MAP sensor and 035. What I can say is that 015 and 035 are different. 035 is leaner.

I have spent some time studying the Volvo 1800 parts manual, and see that Volvo used several Engine/ECU/MAP sensor combinations. With the help of Dr. D-Jet's excellent tables I can now cross reference the Volvo part numbers to their Bosch part numbers. Here is what I have found:

In 1970 1800E chassis number 30001-32799, Volvo used B20E engine with ECU 241727 (0 280 000 009) and MAP sensor 241725 (0 280 100 010).

In 1971 1800E chassis number 32800-37549, Volvo used B20E engine with ECU 243182 (0 280 000 017) and MAP sensor 241725 (0 280 100 010).

In 1972 1800E chassis number 37550 and on and in 1972-73 1800ES, Volvo used both B20E and B20F engines with a thermal timer.
For B20E, ECU 243315 (0 280 000 034) and MAP sensor 243183 (0 280 100 015).
For B20F Manual transmission, ECU 243315 (0 280 000 034) and MAP sensor 243316 (0 280 100 035).
For B20F Automatic transmission, ECU 243315 (0 280 000 034) and MAP sensor 460866 (0 280 100 054).

I have a US 1971 B20E engine with the D-Jet components from a 1972 B20E engine, so I believe MAP sensor 0 280 100 015 would be the best fit for me.

If anyone can confirm or validate this, I would be grateful!

Dr. D-Jet, thank-you for checking your stock, I will look for a US supplier, but will let you know if I do not find one!

Thanks, Jeff

Hi Jeff,

what I read from Bosch documentation is that ECU 034 was combined with 035 MAP sensor in te US.  Europe used 015 MAP sensor. If both engine versions are as different as they are for other OEMs than you cannot use 015 in US. I already told you that 035 is definitely leaner than 015.

Hello Jeff!

I have only just read your questions, as I have been busy installing air conditioning in my Volvo 1800E (1971, 37136) for a few weeks now. BTW: The original Volvo FrigiKing under dash unit with new components.

Norbert had already asked which engine is installed in your car. The answer is crucial. Please check the engine number, then we can determine in the next step which components with which BOSCH numbers should be installed in the corresponding D-Jetronic system, which are compatible and which have been installed by mistake.

According to VIN 184353, the Volvo was originally equipped with a Moto B20E for the US market.

Looking at the pictures of your engine compartment, I detect at least three "improvements": Valve cover, hot air intake instead of cold air intake, thermal timer. According to the color, the engine has been revised, maybe even replaced?

Here you can find my table with number and type of engines:

Good hunting

Hello Jörg!

My engine type is 496940, which is a B20E, and the production number is 4678. I have confirmed with Volvo Historical Archives that this is the original engine for my 1971 car VIN 184353 (a surprise)! I have also checked the shape of the head over the exhaust ports, and it is still a B20E head.

You are very perceptive; it does look like the engine has been reworked. It has a thermal timer installed, ECU 034, and a fuel injection harness with the wires for the thermal timer, which are all parts from circa 1972-73 I think. Sometime after the 2007 pictures were taken, the fuel hose routing, fuel rail, and fuel pressure regulator have all been changed to match the 1972 configuration with the regulator mounted in the fuel rail. Also, the aux air valve has been removed and replaced with a manual ball valve and cable to the cabin.

These all occurred before I bought the car. I got the car about a year and a half ago, but since it was running pretty well, I did not focus on these things. I have since removed the hot air intake and restored an original air filter in the front with a duct to the manifold. I fit the intake air temperature sensor back into the back of the air filter.

Since discovering I have a VW MAP sensor, I want to get a more appropriate one installed, and then replace the AAV.

Thank you for any tips you may have, and good luck with your AC!

Jeff
