Hi Dr Volker. I connected a wire with a thin needle to pin 19 and the chassis .I could hear the pump ,the engine started for maybe 2/3 seconds only .It would not then start.I took the spark plugs out and they were wet.So I cleaned them and tried again ,no joy .I then took one plug out and held it near the rocker cover ,there was a spark and the engine 


started.in fact I believe it did very briefly .I turned the ignition off as it didn't sound nice.Im trying to do these tests on my own which is not easy in a very narrow garage..Regards Nigel.

Hi Nigel,

then it means that your 1st ECU has more problems. What is wrong when you use 2nd ECU?

But first remove all spark plugs and turn engine via starter without ECU so that fuel pump wont run. You have to clean your cylinders and spark plugs from that fuel sea.

Hi Dr Volker..I will try as you said ,then re try the spare ECU I've run so many tests I'm not sure I think it wouldn't activate the pump.Thanks Nigel.

Hi guys .After the very rough engine running briefly last week with the original ECU  pin 19 to ground .I removed the wet plugs and noticed that from the engine front numbers 2/4/6 spark plugs were dry.. So today with my spare ECU agan the pump would not run without 19 to ground.all the plugs dry and cleaned. The engine would fire but not run ,tried several times ,the same each time ,i of course now have once again a flooded engine..Might sound odd but the engine sounded better when it tried to start. In my factory manual it shows a pump earth wire going to the pump relay fixing screw.Mine was not built like that way.,ive yet to find where this brown earth wire runs to from the pump as i cannot see it.Maybe behind the back seat back rest.This is difficult to get out. Do you think maybe this earh could be not making a good contact.? What in your opion is wrong after all these tests.? Its driving me to drink .Regards Nigel.

Hi Nigel,

if your engine is flooded with fuel, why do you search whether fuel pump has proper ground? Your spark plugs can be so bad now that they will not ignite any more. Replace them.

If cyl. 2,4,6 are wet and 1,3,5 are not, you should measure injector signal from ECU with an oscilloscope and compare to 1,3,5 . If it is different, something is wrong with ECU.

Hi Dr Volker .The plugs are new ,and I blast cleaned them before refitting..Of course I have no oscilloscope,.Need to know whether you think i have a wiring issue with the car or do you believe both ECU are faulty..If this is the case then I will have to send one to Bosch or I will never get this car going..Regards Nigel.
