Water Temperature Sensor was created by chasrahm
For 12 years I've owned a Jag '76 XJ12C. Runs well when fully warm, but has been giving me cold start trouble recently. I live in Dallas, TX, so it is rare I drive the car when it is cold enough for the cold start injectors to function.
Yesterday it is 69F in the garage.
I have investigated the AAV and it is open (I did rebuild it while I had it off, but the old one was open and the valve closed as I tested it in 170F water).
Next I tested the ECU water temperature sensor. It was reading 2.8k ohms at the harness clip, which is slightly higher than anticipated with 69F, but that means the ECU should be providing enrichment.
Question: The original Jag part number for the sensor is C42166, or Bosch 0 280 130 014, which I thought I'd just purchase a new one. However, I can't find them. They seem to be "No Longer Available." Is there an acceptable substitute?
Back to the hard cold starting problem, the fuel pressure is correct around 30psi so next I will investigate the ignition system. I long ago converted the distributor to Lumenition for the spark signal, so I'll pull sparking plugs and check the timing.

Hi Charles,
you should measure the sensor resistance on disconnected ECU connector. Even if 0 280 130 014 is not available as a new part, you can source used one. They seldomly fail.

Yes, when I said "harness clip," I really should have stated as measured at the connector at the ECU. It was the same at the sensor, 2.8k ohms as it was at the ECU, 2.8k ohms, thus wire in good condition.
Over the next few days, I'm going to use the Dr-DJet chart to test all devices at the pins on the ECU.
