MAP sensor compatibility for BMW was created by pwhite
In the US, people have used a Mercedes sensor, 0280100112, I believe (somewhat available in junkyards) in place of the BMW CSI sensor 0280100030 (close to unavailable). Is there information on whether this is a reasonable substitution? I'm suspecting that even if the answer is yes, some recalibration of ECU will be suggested? Is any other MAP known to be an OK substitute for the BMW? Thanks! Paul

Sorry again Paul,
I don't believe the sensor will do it.

The #030 is quite different from the #112, the sensors from #100 on do not have an integrated full-load diaphragm as your sensor has..

Have a look: www.jetronic.org/en/d-jetronic/55-mapsensor
Your sensor is 'Type II', the #112 is'Type III'

The car will run, but the fuel management will be ill-fitting. Maybe only fuel consumption is much too high only under certain conditions, maybe the engine willl have reduced performance, maybe the engine is getting heavily damaged...

Volker has more information and will explain better...

Regards
Norbert

Hi Paul,

I can only support and emphasize what Norbert has answered already. The 0 280 100 111 is one of the best available MAP sensors as it was used in so many MB models with 280 engine. However that is a type 3 MAP sensor without full load daiphragm. The BMW has an early version with a type 2 MAP sensor with full load diaphragm.

Now you could try to find a type 2 sensor from Opel, Volkswagen or anotherr MB like 0 280 100 012 . They however have different springs, and full load transition points. You can read that in my article about MAP sensors. There I also describe in detail why this 0 280 100 111 cannot even be used as substitute fpr a 0 280 100 112 which is for another Mercedes-Benz model with type 3 MAP sensor. The tricky part is that it will even run partially but you either risk the engine ot consume a far too much fuel.

Having said that, what is the rpoblem with your MAP sensor? From time to time I see the BMW MAP sensors still on sale for around 250€ . Unfortunately I could not yet sample a BMW MAP sensor for building up references. So far I only have a new BMW ECU here.

Thanks for the facts. Fortunately, my '73 BMW CSI has the 030 sensor in it. And i was just checking that no one has loosened the adjustment screws over the years.

I was just curious about the Mercedes part since i know others have made that swap.

Hi Paul,

as I always say: The fact that D-Jetronic does not verify correct or even the connection to sensors, is the biggest problem. You can connect any MAP sensor as they all have the same connector.

So keep and take good care of your MAP sensor. They usually only brake when the disphragm tears. And what a pity that you do not live close to me. I would love to take a sample of this sensor.
