Leaking fuelpump on 280SECoup3.5 was created by MB280
Hello,
I have a MB 280SE 3.5 Coupé-71.
My fuelpump is leaking and I may need to replace it. The original pump (OEM A0010917401) has 3 ports and replacement pumps( A0010917101) has only 2. Also, my fuel filter is in the engine compartment.
Can I use the newer replacement pump, does it have the same performance and how to rearrange the hoses?
Can I leave the filter Alternative how to stop leakage, comes under one of electrical connections.
Thanks for any reply!
Mfg Sven

Hi Sven,

in principal it is possible to open and reseal also the early fuel pump. But you need force and it must be well applied. You have to take out head of pump from housing to replace O-rings. It is crimped. You have to open those crimps. But not too far, you want a round housing that you can close again.

When you replace with a new pump, pay attention to its maximum pressure. We habe a recommendation in D-Jetronic compendium.

I forgot: the 3rd line as reflow to tank would be closed then.

Thanks a lot for your reply Dr D,
There seems to be two options: Send the original 3 port pump to SLS for restoring, at some 900 EUR.
Other option i to buy the Bosch 2 port replacement 0580464999 at some 300 EUR + modify hose installation as you mentioned. The replacement has 3ATM and 130l/hr. What would you suggest?
Is there an instrucion how to change from 3 port to 2 port?
Vielen Dank!
Sven

Hi Sven,

is you look into my D-Jetronic compendium you will find that I recommend another Bosch pump, not 999 version.

I would try to repair this pump myself before I spend 900 € . It is best solution to keep this pump.

Please read further at compendium . You see 1st picture with green hoses. Close the one from pump to tank if you switch to newer model.

Thanks Dr. Volker(?),
I will read the compendium.
Right now I have succeeded in tightening the leakage with some loctite. Probably not for ever.
If I repair the pump, most parts will still be some 50 years. I curious to know why you think keeping the old pump is better than replacing it with a new?
Would you consider to repair my pump at a fair price?
By the way, if changing pump, can I keep the pressure(?) box where all hoses go through? Just remove the hose connecting to the T-connection for return flow?
Thanks for advising me, wish you a nice evening.
MfG Sven

Hi Sven,

these pumps are so excellent as they have a pressure limiter of 3 bar towards injector line. And no I can currently not repair it as I have to empty a house, an appartment and move into a new house. My time is very limited and on top I have visitor in October. So I have no time for any help then.

Which pressure box do u talk abt?

OK Volker, I understand. Will see if I can find a local resource for pump restoration in Sweden.
By pressure box I mean damper. This I lernt reading you compendium. Impressive know how! I guess the damper can stay if changing to 2 port pump.
