Dear all,

I have a question for 250 CE owners. Is my distributor turned too far counterclockwise, so the pulse generator connector is touching a straight spark plug socket? Or should I just buy a right-angled spark plug socket (elbow version)?

Do you have a right-angled or straight one in your car?
P.S. To properly access cylinder 1 with a spark plug socket wrench, I need to remove the pulse generator. Is that normal?

Regards, Marc.

Hi Marc,
your distributor is installed incorrectly.
Maybe you have to pull it and reinstall it in correct position - maybe you can just turn it and correct the position of the ignition cables.

I will look for an instruction, but need some research.
Maybe one of our Mercedes M114 guys can help.

Regards
Norbert

Hi Norbert,

Thanks for your fast reply.
I have a feeling that i have to turn my distributor maybe 360/6 = 60 degrees clockwise.
Many thanks in advance for any research you can find.

Ps i have distributor Bosch 0 231 301 015

Hi Marc,
following the only figure I could find you have to turn it by 180° - the trigger-connector is in the front.

Hi Norbert,

I think this is not possible because then my vacuum box will touch my engine. To all picture i found on the internet the vacuum box is pointing to the front bumper of the car.

Gr Marc

Can't see the orientation of the vacuum-unit in the photo of your engine...

Thanks Norbert for your efforts so far.

Maybe other owners of 250 CE can have also a picture.

Hi Marc,
that doesn't look so far away from the other photos...

OPEL cars mostly don't have a plug at all, but if better shielding is needed, plugs like this are installed:

Maybe this would work for you, too...

Hi Norbert,

Indeed looks quit similar.

Thats a nice plug you have. Great will keep that in mind.

Any other 250 CE liebhaber who have problems reaching out for spark plug cilinder 1?

best regards. Marc

Hi Marc,

on a 8-cyl engine you could lift distributor and rotate by one tooth.

But if I remember exactly you have a shaft that is in 90° to a wheel on steering chain. That would be a possibility.

Hi Volker,

Sorry, but I don't quite understand you.
That's why I made a picture with the three axles I recognize from the "original parts catalog" and added the letters A, B, and C.

Which shaft do you mean exactly?

Best Regards, Marc

Hi Marc,

I talk of position B to A. B has a slit in whoch ignition distributor is inserted. There you have only 2 possible positions. 8-cylinders have a gear with many teeths on bottom.

Hi Marc,
knowing this from other engines I think distributor shaft 'C' can only be  mounted in one position to 'B' - it will not fit turned by 180°.
The position from 'B' to 'A' has to be correct when the engine is put together. Maybe it is not correctly assembled.

Did you ever check the distributor finger shows towards the marking on the upper side of the distributor-housing when the piston of cylinder 1 is in the upper dead center, at ignition?

And - is the ignition wire of cylinder 1 correctly inserted into the cap in this position?

I think you could correct the problem by turning the distributor by 60° and correct the position of the ignition wires.

Regards
Norbert

Don't you have a workshop-manual for the car / the engine? I think, this would be very helpful.

Hi Norbert,

1) I Do agree distributor shaft "C" can only be inserted in 1 postion. De bottom side is having two protrusions (red rectangles) which are a bit off centre-line

2) The position from 'B' to 'A' has to be correct when the engine is put together. But how is this done in practise?

3) And yes i did check the distributor finger shows towards the marking on the upper side of the distributor-housing when the piston of cylinder 1 is in the upper dead center, at ignition? I did this when i was checking my valve play. See second picture. I just also used a 360 ring of paper to stop at 60 degrees angles by turning the crankshaft, for measuring the valve play at the correct cam shaft position.

4) Indeed as mentioned before i also will check if i can turn the distributor 60 degrees clockwise. So the marking on the upper side of the distributor housing is also turned 60 degrees so i do not have to change the ignition wires. Keep you informed.

5) The manuals that i am using are the manuals via flipbooks of the vdh verein: vdh.mercedesclubs.de/index.php/mitgliederbereich/weblinkscat . But i am open for hardcopy manuals for W114 250 CE cars, any tips?

Greetings Marc

Hi Marc,
I'm no vdh-member and can't access the flipbooks - and don't own a workshop manual for the engine that would be so helpful.

If the distributor is mounted in wrong direction, you have to pull it and the shaft 'B' below it.
You have to install shaft 'B' in corrected position (position altered by one tooth???). Therefore you have to turn the oil-pump-shaft a little bit, too so you can slide in shaft 'B' in again.

Here is a figure:  www.strichacht-forum.de/read.php?1,190993,191005#msg-191005

I hope this fits your engine M114...

Regards
Norbert

Hi all,

Can somebody with a W 114 250 CE car measure the distance from the right side of the cylinder head cover to the right side of the pulse generator connector housing.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Christian,

Thanks for joining this chat.

Pls have look below. If i take part B out then i am losing contact with part D. See end of yellow line (interface B with D).
If I turn Part B a bit clockwise and put it back how can it fit again on top of part D?

Greetings Marc
