MAP sensor compatability was created by AND350SL
Hello to the everyone on the forum!
I have just purchased a 1972 350SL and am overhauling the D-Jetronic system.
The MAP sensor currently fitted is part number 0280100112, which according to the chart on this website, is a Type 3 sensor which was fitted to a 450SL. It has the black plastic cover (which is NOT sitting straight) over the adjusting Allen screw and the blue 'E' decal. Electrical check (coil resistance and earth) is good and tomorrow I will verify if the sensor passes the vacuum bleed test.
My question is, is this sensor compatible with my car? As the black plastic cover is askew it would appear that the sensor has been 'adjusted' at some point possibly to suit my car.
The only difference I have found so far between the Type 2 and the Type 3 sensors is altitude compensation.
All help and advice gratefully received.

Hi AND350SL (a real name would be nicer),
this does not fit for various reasons:
My best advice: Find a proper 0 280 100 012. But be careful to find one without vacuum leakage. And if you don't find one let me know, I should have an overhauled one here.
this does not fit for various reasons:
- 112 has no full-load diaphragm. But your engne needs that. 450 engine has a full-load recognition in throttle switch
- Even if you ignore full-load: Slopes of both curves are different, you cannot adjust a 112 to fit a 350 engine
- A 112 without the black cap means that water could get inside and block the altitude compensation
My best advice: Find a proper 0 280 100 012. But be careful to find one without vacuum leakage. And if you don't find one let me know, I should have an overhauled one here.

Hi AND350SL
Volker is right. I temporarily ran a different MAP sensor on my 350SL whilst the original was repaired and it didn't run right.
Are you in the U.K.? If so I may be able to lend you a correct sensor to show the improvement.

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies and info.
I have now done the vacuum test and the sensor passes with flying colours, pulled 375mmHg with no discernible drop in 5 minutes.
I would be interested in purchasing a correct sensor Volker if you have one and could send you my one as part exchange.
There are a few advantages to living in NZ but access to classic spares isn't one of them! Thanks for the offer Dave.
Best regards,
Neville Andrews

Hi Neville,
I am not surprised that the 0 280 100 112 MAP sensor holds vacuum. It has no diaphragm that can tear. It is what I call a type 3 MAP sensor for 450 SE/SEL/SL/SLC . Their normal problem is that someone has detuned them as this is so easy with them.
However, it does not matter. It does not fit no matter, whether is is correctly tuned ot detuned. You need the 0 280 100 012 . Will contact you separately.
