Does that also apply to a 250 CE?
In the 47/1 group with the 3-way pump, there is indeed a damper (92), but in the 47/2 with the 2-way pump, there is only a filter (83) and no damper.

obviously damper was eliminated when 250CE switched from 3 flange to 2 flange pump. And it has very special damper. However in R/C 107 (like my 450 SL) and W116 an easier damper was used with 2 flange pump.
When I look at those pictures I believe that the old damper had 3 connections too, while the new one only uses 2.

Maybe they were 4 connections like the damper 'Ausgleichsbehälter' in the first Opel model?...
When I look at those pictures I believe that the old damper had 3 connections ...
Look at the photos.
There is a massive wall between inlet- and outlet-side.
Since I've first seen this part, I wonder about the benefits / efficency.

Attached a picture of my damper. 4 connections: 1.from tank, 2.to pump, 3. from pump, 4. supply to engine( filter).
All connections will be used when changing to new pump( if I understand correctly)

well the later version is only on inflow side and has 2 connections. Also nothing inside, just for noise cancellation reasons.

And the very first ones had a box shape i believe?

@ Volker To have properly functioning damping, surely there needs to be a diaphragm between the inlet and outlet chambers, and not a hard wall like in Norbert's picture?
Have you ever seen a cross-section of the first box version dampers or the cylindrical shaped damper?

no I have only seen the later version for R/C 107 and W116. That has only 2 flanges and is a round box with nothing inside.

Fuel runs in from the top (flange now pointing downward) and then runs into pump on the right. No holder, it is just fixed in fuel hose. If any of u wants this one, let me know. It is spare...

So the fuel goes form the big fuel tank to a very small steel tank (the picture that you are showing with the 2 fuel connections) i asume there is nothing inside no membrane then
How does it damping the noice?
How does it damping (smooth out) the fuel fluctuations

it was calculated by Mercedes-Benz AI Fluid Dynamics. This round box gives a definite left-spin swirl that overshadows the noise and compensates it.
To be honest: I never thought about it.

Just as Norbert has his reservations, I also have my doubts regarding noise damping and flow equalization.
What I can live with, is that if the pump doesn't handle vacuum or empty lines well, then—for example, if I make a sharp left turn with a nearly empty fuel tank a half "dampferbehalter" (red dotted circle) ensures that the pump still receives fuel.

that I do not believe. Mercedes-Benz always has a hunting pot (Schlingertopf - some call it Blumentopf) on outlfow area of tank to avoid empty fuel hoses in curved. No need for damper for that.

Other FI-equipped cars do have this internal reservoir pot, too.
FI-tanks and carburator-tanks are different.

Coming back to my pump replacement. The old pump is shorter (and 60 mm diameter) than the new pump. The sleeve(A1244780353) to fill out the diameter is not available any more. That can be fixed somehow. Remaining problem is the fastening brackets/holder for the pump. Since the new pump is longer it does not fit.
Any suggestion of replacement bracket or how to fix would be appreciated.
