Hello,
My name is Eric and I bought a 1975 914 2.0L last week in Germany.
After one year looking for the right car, I found a EU Porsche 914 in original condition, partly restored about 10 years ago.
I test drove  4 other  914's and nearly all had a (slight) hesitation at partial load.
This forum is really very helpful and of high quality !
When the car will arrive in Belgium, I will start to diagnose the hesitation issue. 
As I understand following checks will be useful: basics, ignition, part numbers, vacuum leaks, connectors, fuel pressure, TPS.
I will keep you informed about my findings.

Dear Volker,
Please find an update from my diagnosis of the hesitation between 2-3000rpm.
Fuel pressure ok, 2.0bar / MAP ok, vacuum and resistance / TPS ok, resistance and 10 pulses / no vacuum leaks / dwell 47° / temp. sensors ok, resistance / trigger points ok / injectors ok, resistance.
The issue I have, is a slight vacuum leak at the advance part of the distributor, the retard vacuum is ok. 

My 1975 914 (GB010730) should have  a 0 231 174 011 or 0 231 172 021 distributor with vacuum chamber 1 237 122 603 BUT I have the 0 231 174 009 distributor.
I guess this is not a problem, only a slight difference in the advance curve ?

I would like to consider two options:
  • mechanical advance with Pertronix Ignitor 2 ignition and replace my vacuum chamber (1 237 122 601). Is this part still available ?
  • 123 ignition but without correct advance curve
Can you help me ?

Hi Eric,

first one has to be careful as original distributor exists in a version before and as of mid 74. rpm controlled advance curve of the distributor u have fits ROUGHLY. But advance on vacuum chamber does not in higher vacuum than 150 mm Hg. A leaking vacuum chamber increases that problem.

I do not know if correct distributor and vacuum chamber are still available. If yes, you are very lucky.

Hello Volker,

I was lucky to find the original distributor 0 231 174 011 with vacuum chamber at a member of the Porsche 914 Holland club.
A Pertronix Ignitor II was used to replace the points and I mounted my own trigger points.
The 914 engine is now running again as it should be!

A happy d-jetronic driver :-)
