Testing a BMW MPS/MAP sensor? was created by pwhite
Hello Volker, I'm talking to a fellow e9coupe enthusiast in Ireland about buying a MPS /ECU set from his rust killed 3.0CSI. The car was said to run well but now is gone. If I had these shipped to you would you be interested in testing?
MAP sensor 0 280 100 030
ECU 0 280 001 007
Both red dot
By the way, for your charts, I don't think there was ever a US BMW model with d-jet. The CSI was never sold here and when the 3.0SI was introduced to US in 1975 I think it was L-jet.

Paul

Hi Paul,
thanks for the offer. Yes I would like to take another red BMW MAP sensor reference. But only if it is in Europe. Shipping from/to US is unfortunately very expensive. I do not need the ECU.
I rechecked and it is true that BMW did not directly sell E9 in the US. They were imported by Max Hoffman until 74, see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_E9#3.0_CS.2FCSi And Bosch even developed a prototype BMW MAP sensor for the US market which never made it into the car: 0 280 100 047 . That is why I could never get hold of any references of it. Nothing unusual, Mercedes hat the 0 280 100 121 pilot that I could never find. But both are in their official equipment list.

Thanks, Volker. The MAP sensor I'm buying is currently in Ireland. I'll have to get it shipped across Atlantic anyway. May not be too much extra cost to get it to you first. I'd pay for the shipping on to the US. Maybe 30€?
A question. I'm thinking of getting this well regarded LCR meter for several purposes. www.deree.com.tw/de-5000.html
About $100+
I'm thinking this would be a useful tool to check impedance of MAP sensors. What do you think? Are there special needs for these sensors? Would you be able to share results you get for my sensor so could compare.
Another question. I'm not sure I've understood the "ECU" notation on your MAP sensor table. Do you use the ECUs in some of your MAP sensor tests, but not others?
For BMWs I've heard that MAP sensors and ECUs were individually matched as indicated by dot colors. (And red was considered "best"). Do you know if it is still important to match the color dots?
Kind regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,
sorry for late answer, i was out on Germany's Mercedes-Benz Classic car meeting
I fear that sending a package to the USA is more than 30€. I remember something lik 45-50€ plus 4-6 weeks shipping time. MAP sensor and ECU were not inidivually mapped but color codes hat to be matched. You will find that mapping in my ECU and MAP sensor lists. Regaring your multimeter. Measuring results are heavily depentent on frequency of measurement and environmental pressure. I use my own bridge with a frequency similiar to ECU's excitating frequency to measure and I adjust both environmental pressure and inside vacuum when I measure. Results with other measuting bridges are not comparable (I tried once).

Hi,
it is possible to ship goods up to 2000 grams to the USA by letter (Priority Mail). This is much cheaper than shipping by other services.
'Security options' and insurance are available at a rate that isn't too high.
Regards
Norbert

Hi Norbert,
sounds interesting. Which service would you advice? I only found Warensendung for books and press articles on Deutsch Post.
