Dear all,

Just want to give a quick update. My 350SL as of last week has been running perfectly after having a new ECU and injectors, among other things.

Many thanks to all who helped with your valuable advice and especially Volker. I hope the car will continue running well for a long time.

One of the things to ensure this is to waterproof my Ignition Control Unit, does anybody have experience for this? This electrical item sits near the left wheelarch which is prone to being wet (I have no idea why Mercedes places it there).

Also, is there any other area of the car I should look to waterproof, as I am terrified of the rain now and try not to drive if I cannot park under a shelter.

Thank you again and best wishes from Singapore,

James

Hi James,

great to hear that your car is running again as it should :cheer:

The wheel house type ignition module - as mounted on early 107s - is bound to be there. And yes that is a problem due to water and aluminium corrosion and dirt. But there is no way to seal it as it has to conduct internal heat to the outside. And these modules tend to be problematic.

Hi James,

regarding your question why rpm meter would not work now:

it is connected to a common terminal block with this ignition control module. If someone took off / Broke off the cable to rpm meter there, that would explain the issue of a failing rpm meter.

Tachometer: This word has a different meaning in German and in English :Bang: Tacho is from greek taxys and means speed. That's why we Germans use that word for speedometer. How it became a word for rpm meter in English, I cannot understand and it is very confusing.
