Hi all,

I am trying to convince a seller of a MAP sensor 0280100111, used for the 280 models, not to advertise it for use on V8 engines.
What is the effect when this MAP sensor is used on m116 or m117 engines?

My own thought about it is that the V8 engines would run too rich under load, not in idle, since that has its own spec in the ECU made by the TPS.
My thought is that because of the higher flowrate of the injectors in V8 models, the outcome would be too rich running engines.

Remember that I am not troubled with any kind of real knowledge on this subject :P

Can someone fill me in on this matter?

Hi Sergio,

well I did exactly describe these three MAP sensors in chapter 4.3 Tuning of MAP sensors, look at the green image. No. 1 is that 0 280 100 012 is a type 2 sensor with full-load transition. Both 0 280 100 111 and 0 280 100 112 are lacking these. So a M116 MB 350 engine will run too lean in full-load and not show the power. A 0 280 100 112 has a different curve than the 0 280 100 111. It will make the mixture far too rich and thus burn far too much fuel. Over time this will cost more than a fitting MAP sensor plus it is an unnecessary environemental pollution. And no, the 0 280 100 111 cannot be tuned to do the curve of the 0 280 100 112 for MB's 450 engine. It has a different slope, so springs must be changed inside.

The 0 280 100 111 was used in many Strich8 Mercedes and is cheap to buy. Greedy people therefore advise it as a proper replacement for 8-cylinder engines, BMWs etc. And it is always wrong ! Good for them to make a business, bad for car owners.

It means that I was right for the wrong reasons :lol:
It does get a mixture that is too rich.


I can see that it is pressure on the horizontal line. What is the vertical specification?

Hi Sergio,

on the vertical it is the electrical answer as the ECU sees it from the MAP sensor. Or to be more specific: The MAP sensor's coils is excited by ECU and depending on the vacuum applied it transforms the pulses from the ECU and forms the basic injection pulse.

And in idle-run you were right: Then the MAP sensor is overridden by ECU. However it is still needed to form the basic injection pulse. But its level is then determined by ECU's idle-run potentiometer.
