Zinc plating fuel rail and throttle linkage was created by nalgenesanfran
Hi,

Would it be possible to zinc plate the throttle linkage and the fuel rail for a d jetronic car? I have a 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL and the fuel rail and throttle linkage are all tarnished but work fine. I would like to clean them and get them zinc plated for appearances sake.

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

you can do that but you have to ensure
  1. no liqiuid must get inside fuel pipes or you will face rust there
  2. no coating on joints of linkage - I would buy those new and just keep bar and replace joints

Hi Dr. Djet,

Thanks for the quick reply. When you say fuel pipes, do you mean that after I disconnect the metal fuel rail from the rubber hoses that connect to the injectors I should block the rubber pipes off?

I am based in America so I'm not sure about throttle linkage parts availability here.

One further question: I suspect my fuel pressure regulator(not damper) is internally damaged and is not keeping the system at 30psi. During startup, I have to crank for about 7 or 8 rotations before the engine fires, and I feel like it could be related to the cold start injector or the fuel pressure regulator loosing pressure. On a hot startup the car is fine. Let me know if I should create a new topic for this.

Hi John,

no analysis without measuring pressure. Especially how long it is kept.
