Anyone noticed the RTxxxxxxx number on the main board? It's readable when peeking inside the box with the connector removed.
Does anyone know what it means? See attached for an example (from Paul B. Anders)
RT089969
RT074772

Anything to do with the production date?

Also I noticed there are colored stickers next to the Bosch part number sticker.
I have two units from a Volvo, one with a blue sticker and one with a blue and green sticker.
The Bosch ECU number is 0280 000 034.
RT089969 - Blue and Green
RT074772 - Blue (with green dropped of?)

Suggestions appreciated!

Bart

Hi Bart, Welcome to the forum!

At first - 'RT' means 'produced in Reutlingen' (earlier ones in Hildesheim)
Maybe the other digits are just a production# or another date code - please send us the thee-digit date code (like '334') to verify this.

The colored stickers are markings for the version of the unit. Mostly ECU and MAP with the same color have to be combined.
You find information about the pairs in the 'ECU' section of Volker's compendium here:
jetronic.org/en/d-jetronic/53-ecu
and here (MAP-related): jetronic.org/en/d-jetronic/mps

You will notice the mark 'FD' there. This means 'Fertigungsdatum' = production date. The tree-digit code.

Regards
Norbert

Hi Bart,

welcome and Norbert has explained what we know so far. RT = Reultingen and the rest of the no. is unknown. Underneath is the ECU number. So we have a Porsche / VW unit.

Date of manufacture is an outside stamped or punched no. with 3 digits. You find it in chapter 3.9 explained. Date of maufacture was not stamped on PCB board, only outside.

Color stickers or paint was used outside to mark subversions. However this is not systematic:

  • BMW uses color (or none) to mark subversions of the same no. and there are strict rules how to combine them
  • Volvo uses colors to identify different nos easily
  • Citroen uses colors also to mark subversions of same no but there is only one case where they are important
  • Mercedes-Benz uses coloured stickers with MB star and A or E to mark car model and European / Americas version

You will find what I have researched in chapters 3 and 4 lists. I fond BMW colors troublesome as they often vanish and normal people cannot identify what they can combine then. Best solution is Mercedes-Benz. They use same colors as injectors. So 350 has everything yellow, 450 everything blue, 250 everything green. Then you have 280 with everything white except injectors as 280 uses green ones like 250. So when I look into a Mercedes-Benz engine compartment I see queickly whether components can be correct. only in 450 I have to check for "E" and "A" and in US even further as they also have 2 numbers that can be combined.

But everything is documented in 3.9 and 4.5 . Read and enjoy.

Left side, below the 'RT' - mark.

- Use Volker's link to decode the production date... the upper ECU is one month younger than the other one.

Hi,

my ECU list already stated that. Change from blue to green blue in 231 . SO your 2nd ECU already lost green sticker.

But what does it tell you? Unfortunately nothing in Volvo case. I can read in my documentation what small difference they made. Not relevant to you. Green sticker in this case only means a preset idle-run rheostat. So forget it.

As I wrote in other cases like BMW colors are important (but also often missing).
