Fuel pumps for D-jet was created by Achab90
Hi all-

First of all, thank you for accepting me. I own a beautiful w114 1972 250CE.

I recently had a problem with my original fuel pump (I understand it to be BOSCH 0580 464 005) and my garage specialist suggested using the BOSCH 0580 464 999 instead. My search through the internet says that the 999 had replaced the 005, and that both are for the part 001 091 71 01 anyways. Has anyone ever come across this predicament before? Would appreciate if 999 is ok with the 114.980 engine of my 250CE.

Regards,
Archie

Hi Archie,

I personally do not recommend that pump. Please read jetronic.org/en/d-jetronic/fuel-pump#PumpeFalsch for my recommendation.

Hi Dr D-jet

I greatly appreciate the quick reply. I looked at the MB components list in your Appendix A and it stated that for my 1972 250CE (>Oct 1970), the correct BOSCH number should be 0580 464 005 to replace the 001 091 71 01 fuel pump. Now, does the 0580 464 005 fuel pump have around 2-3 bar operating pressure and can it be used instead if I find a good one on Ebay? I am exploring other possibilities before going to Pierburg 7.21287.53.0 as you have suggested.

Regards
Archie

Hi Archie,

the Bosch 0 580 464 005 is preferable and it has a hydraulic shortcut to avoid pressures above 3 bar. But it is not available as new. That is why I named a Bosch and a Pierbug alternative.

Hi Dr D-Jet
I'm about to purchase the fuel pump now. Why does the BOSCH alternative require mounting and 2 copper rings, but the Pierburg does not?

...because with these parts the Bosch alternative fits like the original and the Pierburrg you have to make fit and looks shitty !

If you read carefully, the article recommends using the mounts and copper rings for the BOSCH alternative, not the Pierburg! The original is also BOSCH.

...i dont have to read it carefully, i put all the parts together to make a sensible alternative Bosch pump instead of the 4 bar pump 0 580 464 999 !

If you order all the parts you will see why, they are the same that come with the 0 580 464 999, to make it fit proper, without have to change something on the car !

So you are saying I don't have to buy additional mounting and copper rings for the BOSCH 0 580 464 021 (as suggested in Dr D-Jet's article) since the current BOSCH should already have it?

...no, that´s not what i´m saying, you have to buy all what is mentioned there, to get all parts what comes with the 999 to make it fit properly !!

The Picture Shows the 999, i only posted it to Show how the parts look like !

Thank you, But you see, the problem is the 999 was accidentally already installed in my car before this, but now i want to replace it. so if the 999 is already properly mounted, then I don't have to further buy the parts except a new BOSCH 0 580 464 021. Is this correct or am I still wrong? Thanks for your patience.

...ah, you never wrote that you already have the 999 in your car, this makes sense now ! you dont have urgently to replace it, it will work in your car, just make sure that you have 2 bar fuel pressure in the ring line ! i recommend the 021 plus the listed parts, because it´s cheaper and more near to the pressure of the 005 !
