Ignition Control Module was created by JulianReid
I have seen an Ignition Control Module referenced in other websites and material related to a 111 3.5. I do not see that component listed in the various pieces on this website. It is a small square matalic box about 4 to 5 inches on each side. My questions are:

1. Does the 111 3.5 system need an Ignition Control Module?
2. What does it do?
3. How do you check to see if it is working properly.

Thank you. Julian

Hi Julian,

1. It is not needed for D-Jetronic injection. But all Mercedes-Benz D-Jetronic cars have one (with very few exceptions of early 250 CEs)
2. It reduces wear of ignition contact. 6 cyl engines in Europe do not have it and thus that contact burns quickly down. Transistor ignition module uses that contact for information only and sends the curent directly to ignition coil.
3. Open my 107 SL Workshop manual above: jetronic.org/de/107sl-wsm/107sl-wsm-cont...-107sl-ri-engc-m116D and read chapter 07.5-520 . This module 0 227 051 015 is a GE type unit as described in 4.1 there.

Viele Schraubergrüße - best regards, Dr-DJet Volker

Thank you. For some reason, when I click on 07.5-520, I just get a blank page. But one clarifying question, when you say that it reduces the wear on contacts in the ignition, are you referring to the points?

Yes,
'points' are named 'Kontakte' in German, therefore Volker used the word 'contacts' instead of 'points'.
We are no native English speakers, just try our best...

If I remove the points from the distributor and replace with Pertronics, do I need the ignition control module? Is it a necessary component even if I do not use points/contacts?
